Wildcats Snap Skid; Beat Cyclones, 5-2

AMES, Iowa Kansas State snapped a 10-match losing streak and earned its first Big 12 Conference win after defeating the Iowa State Cyclones, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon.


The Wildcats (3-11, 1-4 Big 12) won for the first time since Feb. 16, and pushed their winning streak over Iowa State 13 consecutive matches with the win at Ames Racquet and Fitness Club.


Kansas State rolled through doubles competition, winning in all three matches. Katerina Kudlackova and Olga Klimova earned their team-leading fourth conference doubles match win and defeated Jill Palen and Caitlin Loprinzi at No. 2, 8-1.


The Wildcats won at the top three positions in singles play with Viviana Yrureta, Fernanda Da Valle and Tamar Kvaratskhelia all earning straight set victories.


Klimova snapped a personal 10-match skid after outlasting Danielle Uscinski at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Katerina Kudlackova and Natasha Vieira were the only Wildcats to lose in singles play on Wednesday.


The win moves Kansas State ahead of Iowa State (5-7, 0-6), in the Big 12 standings.


The Wildcats will receive a visit from Texas Tech on Saturday in Manhattan and close the regular season with five of the next six matches at home.
