Wildcats Defeated by Red Raiders

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State recorded two singles wins on Friday afternoon, but Texas Tech secured the match win with the doubles point and four straight singles wins at Washburn Tennis Facility, 5-2.


K-State (6-9, 2-4 Big 12) received its two singles wins from senior Viviana Yrureta and sophomore Natasha Vieira. Yrureta won for the sixth time in her last eight matches at the number one position, with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Samantha van der Drift. Yrureta is now 4-2 in Big 12 action and 15-11 for the season.


Vieira ended a four-match losing streak with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 win over Kerryn Potgieter at the number five position. The product of Carabobo, Venezuela is now 2-4 in Big 12 action.


Texas Tech (10-7, 3-3) took control of the match with a sweep of doubles action, including an 8-1 win by Kelsy Garland and Simone Templeton over Yrureta and Vieira. The Red Raiders followed the doubles win with four straight singles victories, including the match-clinching win by Janet Durham over Katerina Kudlackova, 6-3, 6-3, at number three singles.


Kansas State will conclude its five-match homestand on Sunday against No. 4 Baylor. Match time at Washburn Tennis Facility is set for 12 p.m.
