K-State Returns to Road for Final Trip

MANHATTAN, Kan. - After a successful two-match homestand, K-State women's tennis returns to the road this weekend to face Colorado on Friday and Missouri on Sunday. K-State will look to halt a four-match road skid during its final road trip of the 2010 spring season.

Kansas State (5-8, 2-3 Big 12) defended its home turf with a pair of wins, including a 7-0 victory over Kansas in the squad's last outing on March 31. The 7-0 win by the Wildcats was the first regular season sweep of the rival Jayhawks in the program's history.

In K-State's two most recent matches, the Wildcats have been led by three of the squad's freshmen - Karla Bonacic, Ana Gomez Aleman and Carmen Borau Ramos. The trio is a combined 6-0 in the last two matches, including three 3-set wins. Bonacic has won five of her last seven singles matches and has bolstered her spring mark to 5-4.

Colorado (8-8, 1-4 Big 12) is paced by a pair of ranked singles players, No. 95 Monica Milewski and No. 124 Melisa Esposito. Milewski is 19-6 overall this season and 9-4 during the spring at number one in the singles lineup. Esposito enters Friday's match with a 15-7 mark and a 9-2 effort at number two singles.

The Buffaloes have won four straight matches in the series and hold a 21-11 lead in the series with K-State. The Wildcats' last win in Boulder came on March 4, 2006.

Missouri (5-11, 0-5 Big 12) will look to shake off a three-match losing streak this weekend. K-State owns a 22-9 lead in the series with the Tigers and won the last matchup between the schools in Columbia on March 14, 2008.

Following this weekend's road matches, Kansas State returns home for a season-high four-match homestand to close out the regular season. The Wildcats will face Oklahoma on Saturday, April 17 at 11 a.m., and Oklahoma State on Sunday, April 18 at 12 p.m. The matches will be played at the Wamego Recreation Complex. If there is inclement weather, the matches will be moved indoors to Cottonwood Racquet Club in Manhattan.
