Cats Capture Doubles Against Horns

AUSTIN, Texas Kansas State earned a hard fought doubles point on Sunday afternoon, but No. 20 Texas prevailed in the match with a 6-1 win over the Wildcats at Penick-Allison Tennis Center. This is just the second loss this season for the Wildcats after they have won the doubles point.

K-State (6-12, 2-7 Big 12) took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. The number one doubles team of Olga Klimova and Katerina Kudlackova upset the No. 21 ranked doubles team of Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic, 9-7, and even the doubles matches at one apiece. The win by the tandem of Klimova and Kudlackova ended a three-match losing streak and brought their Big 12 record to 4-5.

K-State’s number three doubles team of Viviana Yrureta and Natasha Vieira followed right behind the number one team with a 9-7 win of their own over Stephanie Davison and Caroline Larsson. The win evened Yrureta and Vieira’s Big 12 record at 3-3 and is the second win in the last three matches for the duo.

Texas (14-4, 8-0) recovered from the early deficit to sweep through singles action, including straight set wins at number four, three, two and five. The Longhorns are now 15-0 in the all-time series with the Wildcats.

Kansas State will return to Manhattan to host Iowa State on April 18 at 3 p.m. This will be the home finale for seniors Klimova and Yrureta.
