Wildcats Fall to Huskers, 5-2

MANHATTAN, Kan. For the second consecutive day Kansas State was forced to forfeit a point because of injuries and was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 5-2 loss to Nebraska on Sunday at the Washburn Tennis Courts.

With two players out due to injury, the Wildcats were forced to compete with five players, forfeiting the third doubles match and giving up a point at No. 6. Fernanda Da Valle, who was injured in her singles match on Saturday, and Olga Klimova, who continues to nurse a sore knee, did not compete for K-State.

Nebraska’s Imke Reimers and Diana Kuhl outlasted Viviana Yrureta and Katerina Kudlackova in a 9-7 match at No. 1 doubles and the Huskers’ Maria Ring and Wivica Swarting defeated Tamar Kvaratskhelia and Natasha Vieira to sweep the opening point.

K-State fell in an immediate 2-0 hole when they forfeited the point at No. 6 and were down 3-0 after Yrureta was defeated in straight sets by Reimers at No. 1.

Wiveca Swarting defeated Kudlackova at No. 3 singles to clinch the victory for Nebraska.

The Wildcats got their only points of the match when Kvaratskhelia defeated Kuhl in straight sets at No. 2 and when Vieira topped Maria Ring in the longest match of the afternoon, 5-7, 7-6(9-7), 1-0(10-5).

Nebraska improved to 24-11 in matches with Kansas State and has won in back to back trips to Manhattan. K-State will conclude regular-season play next weekend when they take on Texas A&M and Texas in Manhattan.
