Cats Finish Regular Season This Weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s tennis will close out its regular season this weekend, as the Wildcats host a pair of teams ranked among the top-40 in the Campbell’s/ITA national rankings. Both matches are slated to be contested at Wamego Recreation Complex. If there is poor weather, the matches could be moved indoors to Cottonwood Racquet Club in Manhattan.

 

On Saturday, K-State (4-12, 1-8 Big 12) hosts No. 35 Texas A&M (11-8, 7-1 Big 12) at 12 p.m. On Sunday, the Wildcats host No. 32 Texas (12-6, 8-1 Big 12) at 11 a.m. Before Sunday’s match with Texas, K-State will honor its lone senior this season, Katerina Kudlackova. Kudlackova is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team recipient, as she is a double major in psychology and Spanish. During her time in Manhattan, the product of Ceska Trebova, Czech Republic has registered a 48-83 record in singles play and a 60-78 mark in doubles action. Her 60 career doubles victories ranks seventh in school history.

 

Kansas State enters the weekend fresh off its first win in 11 matches, as the Wildcats defeated No. 63 Nebraska, 5-2, in Wamego. K-State captured the win as all three freshmen in the singles lineup won their matches and Wildcats secured the doubles point for the eighth time this season.

 

Leading the way for the Wildcats last week was freshman Petra Chuda. The product of Sokolnice, Czech Republic, was 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles action. Chuda secured the K-State victory on Saturday with a three-set win at number five singles. Both wins during the week came in three-set matches and were her first career Big 12 singles victories.

 

Also recording wins against Nebraska were freshmen Nina Sertic and Mariya Slupska. Both registered straight set wins over their respective opponents last Saturday. Slupska tallied her first career win at number two singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Wiveca Swarting. Sertic improved her career record to 7-11 and 5-2 at number three singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jana Albers.

 

Following the weekend regular season finale, Kansas State will travel to Norman, Okla., for the 2009 Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championships from April 23-26.
