K-State Seniors Play Home Finale Friday

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State will conclude its 2008 home schedule and regular season slate this weekend, as the Wildcats host Iowa State on Friday at 3 p.m. and travel to No. 67 Nebraska on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to K-State home tennis matches is free.


K-State (6-12, 2-7 Big 12) will have two seniors, Olga Klimova and Viviana Yrureta, playing their final home match at Washburn Tennis Facility on Friday.


Klimova, a product of Brno, Czech Republic, has fought through knee injuries during her time at K-State to record a 31-46 career singles record. Klimova has been a solid doubles player, as she has tallied a 48-47 doubles record and an 18-10 record in Big 12 doubles play.


Yrureta joined the Wildcats after transferring from Central Florida before the start of the 2005-06 season and has registered a 33-39 singles mark including a 15-23 mark at the number one singles position. In doubles action, Yrureta has achieved a 32-45 record and an 8-12 record in Big 12 doubles play.


Iowa State (4-12, 0-9) enters Friday’s match in the midst of a seven-match losing streak and have lost 10 of its last 11 matches. The Wildcats have won 17 straight against the Cyclones and are 23-9 in the series history.


Nebraska (15-5, 4-5) holds a 24-11 lead in the series against the Wildcats, but K-State has split the last 10 meetings with the Huskers. Nebraska is led this season by senior Imke Reimers and sophomore Wiveca Swarting. Reimers is 16-4 at the number one singles position this spring and a 5-4 Big 12 mark. Swarting is 17-3 this spring and is 12-3 from the number two position in the lineup.


Following this weekend’s conclusion to the regular season, Kansas State will travel to College Station, Texas to take part in the 2008 Big 12 Championships at George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, April 24-28.
