Wildcats Sweep Cyclones on Senior Day

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State ended a five-match losing streak on Friday evening with a 7-0 win over Iowa State at Ahearn Field House. This was the first sweep of an opponent for K-State since Feb. 9.

The Wildcats (7-12, 3-7 Big 12) swept through doubles action, as senior Viviana Yrureta and sophomore Natasha Vieira got the Wildcats off on the right foot from the number three doubles position with an 8-3 win over Liza Wischer and Reka Keleman. Freshmen Antea Huljev and Vanessa Cottin secured the doubles point for K-State with an 8-4 decision over Alyssa Palen and Caitlin Loprinzi.

Iowa State (4-13, 0-10) was unable to fend off the Wildcats in singles action, as K-State swept five of the six positions in the lineup. Yrureta tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win over Erin Karonis at number one singles to end a three-match losing streak. The win evened Yrureta’s record at 5-5 in the Big 12 and elevated her to 16-14 on the season.

Junior Katerina Kudlackova snapped an eight-match skid with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Loprinzi. This was Kudlackova’s first straight set win since Feb. 16. Also ending an extended losing streak was Vieira with a straight set win at number five singles (6-4, 6-2).

This was the first home win for the Wildcats since March 28 over Oklahoma State. The Wildcats have now won two of their last three home finales.
