Wildcats Close Out Regular Season with Aggies and Longhorns

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State ends the regular season this weekend and faces the Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Longhorns at the Washburn Tennis Facility.

The Wildcats (5-13, 3-6 Big 12) dropped two north division matches last weekend and are looking for their second win against a team from the Big 12 south.

K-State begins play with Texas A&M on Saturday at noon and play Texas at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

K-State defeated Texas Tech, 5-2, on April 7 but are 1-4 against Big 12 south opponents. The Wildcats will also be looking to do something that has never been done in K-State tennis history, defeat the Aggies or Longhorns.

Texas A&M (17-5, 7-2 Big 12) has cruised through the Big 12 this season, going undefeated in four duals with the north division and losing just two matchee - one to league-leader Baylor and a 4-3 match to Texas on Tuesday.

Texas (11-8, 8-1) doesn’t have the sparkling record the Aggies do, but they may be the better team as shown by their win over A&M on Tuesday. The Longhorns have dropped six matches to team’s currently ranked in the top-11 in the country but have faired well in Big 12 Conference matches with an 8-1 record.

The location of this weekend’s matches will be determined by the weather, but the matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Washburn Tennis Facility next to K-State’s Peters Recreation Complex. If the temperature is below 50 degrees, if it is rainy, or if the wind is above 20 mph, the matches will be played indoors at Ahearn Field House. Admission is free regardless of the location.

The Wildcats begin play at the Big 12 Championships on April 26 at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo. K-State’s match-up and a tournament bracket will be made available at www.kstatesports.com as soon as it is determined.
