Cats Fall to Texas at Big 12 Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas Kansas State faced a sticky situation in its quarterfinal match of the 2008 Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championships, as the Wildcats fell to No. 2 seeded and 20th-ranked Texas, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.


The Wildcats (8-14) were unable to win its fifth straight doubles point, as the Longhorns (17-5) captured the opening point with wins at the number one and two positions in the lineup. K-State’s string of doubles’ point wins began at Texas on April 13.


Texas completed the sweep with straight set singles wins at numbers six, three and one.


K-State concludes the 2008 season by reaching the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships for the seventh time in the program’s history.


The Wildcats will welcome back five letterwinners from this season, including freshmen contributors Vanessa Cottin and Antea Huljev. The duo combined for a 4-6 doubles record together and singles marks of 6-16 and 16-17, respectively. Cottin and Huljev also captured singles wins in the Wildcats first round upset of Nebraska on Thursday.
