K-State's Yrureta Named All-Big 12

IRVING, Texas Kansas State’s Viviana Yrureta was named to the All-Big 12 first team in an announcement by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first career athletic citation for Yrureta.

 

The product of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela finished the season as K-State’s top singles player with a 17-15 overall record. Yrureta tallied an 11-10 record at the number one position in the K-State lineup and a 5-6 mark in Big 12 action.

 

Yrureta helped the Wildcats to the quarterfinals of the 2008 Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championships for the first time since the 2006 season, as she defeated Imke Reimers of Nebraska in three sets to secure the match. Yrureta displayed a high degree of endurance throughout the season, as she held a 10-3 record in three-set matches.

 

The honor bestowed upon Yrureta is the first for a Wildcat since the 2006 season. Earlier this season, Yrureta garnered her second career Academic All-Big 12 first team honor.
