MANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior Petra Niedermayerova received another honor for her already loaded trophy case, as she was selected as a member of the Capital One Academic All-District VII At-Large First Team on Thursday. This marks the third straight season Niedermayerova has earned first team all-district honors from Capital One/CoSIDA.

The Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected and announced in early June. Niedermayerova was a 2013 Capital One Academic All-America At-Large First Team selection.

The product of Brno, Czech Republic is an economics major who boasts a stellar cumulative GPA of 3.97. She will graduate this weekend and plans to pursue a Ph. D. in economics at Boston University beginning in the fall. Earlier this season, Niedermayerova secured her third Academic All-Big 12 First Team honor. She is also a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete.

Within the economics department, Niedermayerova has been highly decorated student. This spring, she was the co-author of a paper based off her 2013 summer internship with the Heritage Foundation. Her paper was accepted at the Dallas Economics Scholars Program, which is a very competitive process with only a third of the papers submitted for review accepted. On the court, Niedermayerova will be making her school record fourth appearance in the NCAA Division I Singles Championships on May 21-26 in Athens, Georgia, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Niedermayerova is a two-time ITA All-American in her three previous appearances.

Her 24 wins this season are tied for fifth in school history for singles wins in a season.
