K-State Tennis Signs Two for 2010-11

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State women's tennis head coach Steve Bietau announced on Wednesday the signing of two student-athletes for the 2010-11 campaign. The two additions to the roster are Petra Niedermayerova and Alina Piotrowski.

Nierdermayerova, a product of Brno, Czech Republic, comes to the Wildcats with an extensive playing background during the last four seasons. She has played in 342 individual and team competitions during this time frame. In singles action, she recorded a mark of 162-52 (.757) and in doubles competition she garnered a record of 92-36 (.719). At one point during her junior career, Niedermayerova was ranked as high as 29th in the Czech Republic.

During the last four seasons, Niedermayerova has captured a number of titles including: five-time singles champion at the Southern Noravian Championship and a three-time doubles winner at the same championship. She also captured the singles title at the 2006 TE Junior Tour 2LTC Cup in Brno.

Piotrowski, a native of Dortmund, Germany, captured her county singles championships during the summer and winter of 2005. She also won a pair of singles' titles during the 2007 season, the Cemex Cup and the Pfingst-Turnier. Piotrowski will be K-State's first women's tennis student-athlete from Germany.

K-State concluded the 2009-10 season with a 7-13 overall record and a 4-7 mark in the Big 12. The eighth-place finish and four league victories were the most league wins for the program since the 2006 season and the most overall victories since the 2008 campaign.

Entering the 2010-11 season, the Wildcats will return its entire singles and doubles lineups led by senior Antea Huljev (15-21 singles record in 2009-10), junior Petra Chuda (13-18 singles record in 2009-10) and sophomore Karla Bonacic (12-15 singles record in 2009-10) when the new season unfolds in September.
