Huljev, Vieira Win Singles on Saturday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Kansas State junior Natasha Vieira continued the healthy start to her season on Saturday, while sophomore Antea Huljev won her first singles match of the new campaign during the second day of the Razorback Classic.

Vieira defeated Kristin Gray of Oklahoma, 6-3, 6-1, to push her record to 2-0. This is the first time she has won consecutive matches, since winning three straight from Feb. 2-Feb. 12, 2008.

Huljev captured her first win of the season with a three-set triumph over Thalia Diaz-Barriga of Tulsa, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. This is Huljev’s first three-set win since defeating Kara Hickey of Iowa State on April 18. The product of Velenje, Slovenia, is now 16-18 for her career.

In doubles play, the Wildcats changed up their pairs and saw success from the tandem of Huljev and freshman Petra Chuda. The duo defeated Rebecca Row and Ewa Szatkowska of Tulsa, 8-6.

K-State will complete action at the Razorback Classic on Sunday. The Wildcats will play only singles matches, as play will be moved to the Dillis Indoor Tennis Center due to the remnants of Hurricane Ike.
