Among its many achievements during the 2011 spring season, Kansas State captured a school record 16 overall wins and ascended to the highest ITA team ranking in school history at No. 31 on March 29. Leading the Wildcats into the 2011-12 season will be sophomore Petra Niedermayerova and juniors Karla Bonacic and Ana Gomez Aleman. This trio of returners was responsible for 56 percent (65 wins) of the team’s 116 overall singles wins. These three were also able to elevate their games in league action with 23 combined wins, which was almost 66 percent of the team’s 35 singles win in Big 12 play.

Niedermayerova returns to the Little Apple after one of the most decorated freshman seasons in school history. The product of Brno, Czech Republic  carded  the second-highest win total by a freshman in school history with a 24-10 record, including a 9-2 record at number one singles in the Big 12. As a result of her strong play, she finished with a treasure-trove of honors and awards including: Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Freshman of the Year, the ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year and the ITA Central Region Player to Watch. She was the second student-athlete in Big 12 women’s tennis history to earn both Big 12 Player of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors in the same season.

Gomez Aleman achieved a career-high for wins with a 20-13 record. The native of Murcia, Spain, registered a career-best nine-match win streak from March 26-April 29.

Bonacic finished with a career-best record of 21-9, including a perfect 6-0 mark in three-set matches.

Following its action at the 36th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic this weekend, K-State will travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Classic.
