Two Wildcats Ranked In Preseason Tennis Rankings

MANHATTAN, Kan. - For a second straight year, Kansas State had two Wildcats ranked in the 2001-2002 preseason Collegiate Tennis Rankings Friday administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

2001 Big 12 All-Conference selections Alena Jecminkova and Petra Sedlmajerova are ranked No. 56 and tied for No. 100, respectively. Jecminkova finished last season ranked No. 86 nationally and No. 4 in the Central Region, while Sedlmajerova was ranked No. 11 in the region. The Big 12 had 14 players earn rankings in the top 100 players, led by Texas' Vladka Ulhirova at No. 19, while five Big 12 doubles teams are ranked in the top 50, led by Baylor's Katja Kovac and Vida Mulec at No. 21.

The Wildcats return five letterwinners from last year's team that finished No. 55 in the final ITA poll with a 12-10 overall record and 7-4 Big 12 mark.

Kansas State opens its 2001 fall season, Sept. 28-30, at the Georgia Bulldog Fall Invitational in Athens, Ga. The 'Cats will play NCAA Final Four participate Georgia, Miami (Fla.) and Notre Dame.
