Three Wins Close Out Razorback Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Kansas State garnered three singles wins during the final day of the Razorback Classic on Sunday. Sophomore Antea Huljev tallied her second singles win, while freshman Mariya Slupska won her first career match.

 

Huljev, a native of Velenje, Slovenia, defeated Maria Kalashnikova of Oklahoma, 6-2, 6-1 to conclude the weekend with a 2-1 record. The consecutive wins by Huljev are the first since she won three straight from Feb. 23-March 8, 2008.

 

Slupska was the first of the team’s three freshmen to register her first career singles victory. Slupska, a product of Kiev, Ukraine, defeated Thalia Diaz-Barriga of Tulsa, 6-2, 6-1, and finishes the weekend with a 1-2 record.

 

Also among K-State’s wins on Sunday was sophomore Vanessa Cottin. The Paris, France native won her first singles match of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Brittany Baldy of Oklahoma.

 

Kansas State will have two weeks before they return to the court on Sept. 26-28 at the KU Invitational in Lawrence.
