Weekly Notes

K-State will visit a familiar fall destination this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to the Adidas Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind., at the IU Tennis Center. K-State will face competition in this three-day, flighted event from national powerhouses Georgia, Notre Dame and host Indiana.

The Wildcats opened its fall schedule last weekend at the 36th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. K-State came away with a 6-13 overall record in singles action, while the doubles teams were 4-5.

The doubles tandem of sophomore Petra Niedermayerova and junior Ana Gomez Aleman finished as the doubles runner-up with a 2-1 mark together. This was the first time head coach Steve Bietau used this combination, with the duo notching wins over pairs from Western Michigan and Marquette.

Gomez Aleman added an honor to her trophy case at the conclusion of the event, as she was given the Mulcahy Sportsmanship Award. This is second straight season a Wildcat earned the honor, as Niedermayerova was given the award in the fall of 2010.

On the singles side, junior Carmen Borau Ramos and freshman Marketa Trousilova came away from Milwaukee with 2-1 records. Borau Ramos ended a personal three-match skid with her 6-2, 7-5 win over Jill Pastunink of Western Michigan on Saturday. The product of Jaca, Spain closed the weekend with a three-set win over Ana Pimienta of Marquette. Borau Ramos has now won four of her last five three-set matches. Her consecutive wins to close out the weekend were her first back-to-back wins since April 17-28.

Trousilova secured her first two wins of her K-State career with a pair of straight set wins on Saturday and Sunday.

Following its action at the Adidas Hoosier Classic this weekend, a majority of K-State’s roster will have a slight break in play. Niedermayerova will be the only Wildcat in action in two weeks, as she will play in the main draw of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club located in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The event will take place Oct. 6-9.
