K-State Set for Hoosier Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following its first fall trip, Kansas State women’s tennis returns to action this weekend at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. Teams competing at the Indiana Tennis Center this weekend are: Indiana, LSU, Miami (OH), Cincinnati and Murray State.

The Wildcats received a strong opening performance in singles from sophomore Ana Gomez Aleman and freshman Petra Niedermayerova. Gomez Aleman finished the opening weekend at the 35th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic with a 2-1 record, including a pair of straight set victories. The native of Murcia, Spain, also paired with junior Nina Sertic to record a 2-1 doubles mark.

Niedermayerova made a solid K-State debut with a 1-1 singles record and a 1-2 mark with sophomore Karla Bonacic in doubles play. The product of Brno, Czech Republic earned the Milwaukee Tennis Classic’s Mulcahy Sportsmanship Award, which was voted on by the participating coaches and officials of the event.

In doubles action, K-State received a strong performance from the duo of junior Petra Chuda and sophomore Carmen Borau Ramos. For the first time in their K-State careers, Chuda and Borau Ramos were paired together and the tandem responded with a 2-1 record over the weekend, including an 8-1 win over Gillian Hush and Paola Calderon of Marquette.

Following this weekend’s trip to Indiana, Kansas State will prepare for the ITA Central Regional on Oct. 21-24.
