Wildcats Set for Razorback Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State women's tennis will compete in the third of four fall events beginning on Friday, when K-State travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Classic. Participating teams this weekend include: Arkansas, Tulsa and Oklahoma State.

Last weekend at the Hoosier Classic, K-State's entire roster was in action and saw three players record a 2-1 mark in singles action: senior Natasha Vieira, junior Antea Huljev and sophomore Nina Sertic. For the weekend, the Wildcats were dominate in three-set matches with a 5-1 record and are now 6-1 in extended matches this season. Last season, K-State finished 22-24 in three-set matches.

Vieira snared her two wins at the Hoosier Classic in three sets. Since the 2007-08 season, Vieira has won six 3-set matches in 13 chances.

Also winning both her matches in three sets last weekend was Huljev. The product of Velenje, Slovenia, is 3-0 this season in three-set matches and owns a career record of 13-8 in three-set matches. Huljev is K-State's current singles wins leader with a career mark of 33-39 and is 4-3 after the first two fall events.

Sertic rebounded from a rough opening weekend at the WSU Fall Classic, to record a pair of straight set singles wins at the Hoosier Classic. The native of Zagrab, Croatia, now owns a 10-16 career record and is 2-4 this season.

In doubles action at the Hoosier Classic, the pairing of Huljev and Sertic asserted itself with three wins in four chances, including a pair of 9-7 wins on the first day. The duo is 5-2 this season and, dating back to last season, is 7-8 when paired together.

This weekend at the Razorback Classic, K-State head coach Steve Bietau will keep the duo of Huljev and Sertic together, but will mix up the other doubles teams to find the right combination with the following pairs: sophomore Petra Chuda and freshman Maryna Chumak, freshmen Ana Gomez Aleman and Karla Bonacic and Vieira and freshman Carmen Borau Ramos.

K-State will have two weeks off before concluding the fall schedule at the ITA Central Regional in Norman, Okla., Oct. 21-25.
