Niedermayerova Set for ITA/Riviera All-American

Petra Niedermayerova will bring a 26-13 career record into this week's ITA/Riviera Championships.

Kansas State will have a representative at this week’s ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships, as sophomore Petra Niedermayerova will compete in the main draw of the event Oct. 6-9 in Pacific Palisades, Calif., at the Riviera Country Club. Niedermayerova is one of four players from the Big 12 to earn automatic entry into the main draw.

The main draw of the ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships will feature a 64-player singles bracket, with both a championship and consolation bracket. Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions from the ITA/Riviera will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.

Niedermayerova enters the event ranked No. 35 in the preseason Campbell/ITA national singles rankings. The product of Brno, Czech Republic has posted a 2-3 effort this fall while working on a few nuances in her game. She has faced three ranked foes in the early stages of the schedule, including No. 9 Chelsy Gullickson of Georgia who will be competing in this week’s main draw with Niedermayerova. Niedermayerova has yet to defeat a ranked opponent this season, but is 7-5 in her career against ranked foes.

Niedermayerova is currently 26-13 (.667) in her K-State singles career. Included in her career Singles record, is a mark of 21-8 (.724) in straight set matches and a 5-5 record in three-set matches.

Niedermayerova is K-State’s first representative at this prestigious event since Maria Rosenberg in the fall of 2004.

Following her play at the ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships this week, Niedermayerova will rejoin her teammates in preparation for the remainder of the fall schedule. The Wildcats will return to action with part of the roster competing Oct. 20-23 at the ITA Central Regional and the rest of the roster visiting the KU Invitational Oct. 21-23.
