Yrureta Wins Hoosier Classic Singles Flight

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Viviana Yrureta led another strong effort by Kansas State at the Indiana Hoosier Classic on Saturday, capturing the Flight A’ championship of the singles portion of play at the Varsity Tennis Courts.

 

Yrureta defeated Notre Dame’s Colleen Reilly in one of K-State’s three singles wins on Saturday en route to winning the top singles bracket at the Hoosier Classic. Yrureta reached the finals of Flight C’ in 2005 but was defeated.

 

After dropping two matches on Friday, Katerina Kudlackova rebounded with a win over Louisiana State’s Ashley Murdock in the seventh place match of Flight C’ on Saturday. Natasha Vieira earned her second win of the weekend after she defeated Notre Dame’s Kelly O’Flynn in straight sets, and finished the singles portion of the tournament, 2-1, in round robin play.

 

In doubles play Vieira and Tereza Prochazkova beat Murray State’s Ottossen and Adriana Alvarez, 8-1, to start the day but fell to a mixed team of Stephanie Smith (Kansas) and Adrienne Elsberry (Georgia) in the afternoon.

 

Kudlackova and Yrureta opened the doubles main draw with a win over Murray State’s Casady Pruitt and Anne Pennington but lost to Notre Dame’s Katie Potts and Cosmina Clobanu. 

The Hoosier Classic concludes on Sunday with two rounds of doubles play beginning at 10 a.m.
