Doubles Advance at ITA Central Region

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah The Kansas State doubles team of senior Katerina Kudlackova and sophomore Antea Huljev tallied a pair of wins on Thursday to reach the round of 16 at the ITA Central Region Championships. Huljev also advanced in singles play to close out the afternoon.

The duo opened doubles play on Thursday morning with an 8-4 win over Stephanie Eusebe and Isabela Kulaif of New Mexico State, ending a four-match losing streak the pair carried into the championship.

The tandem returned to the Eccles Tennis Center courts in the afternoon and outlasted Ana Maria Constantinescu and Maria Kalashnikova of Oklahoma, 9-7. Huljev and Kudlackova now hold a 3-5 record together this fall and a 5-7 mark since the fall of 2007. The pair’s round of 16 opponent on Friday will be Nanar Airapetian and Anouk Tigu of Arkansas.

In a unique scheduling twist, Huljev and Kudlackova returned to the court for singles play in the mid-afternoon to play Kalashnikova and Constantinescu. Huljev captured her eighth singles win of the fall with a three-set decision over Kalashnikova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Kudlackova fell in straight sets to Constantinescu, 7-6, 6-3.

K-State will continue action at the ITA Central Region on Friday, while five Wildcats will start play at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque.
