Yrureta Wins ITA Regional Opener

TULSA, Okla. Viviana Yrureta advanced through the first round of the main draw of singles play at the ITA Central Regional on Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.


Yrureta, a senior from Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, won a three-set match over Camilla Belassi of Colorado, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. Yrureta has now won five of her last six singles matches and has won all three of the three-set matches she has played this fall. This is the second straight year Yrureta has advanced to the second round of the ITA Central Regional.


Yrureta will return to the court on Friday morning at 9 a.m. with a match against Aurelija Misevcuite of Arkansas.


In doubles play, the tandem of junior Katerina Kudlackova and sophomore Natasha Vieira pushed their win streak to four with an 8-4 win over Anna Fagegaltier and Zelja Juriek of New Mexico State. Kudlackova and Vieira were stopped in the round of 32 during play in a late afternoon match with Jana Albers and Imke Reimer of Nebraska, 8-4.


K-State’s other doubles team of Yrureta and freshman Antea Huljev pushed the Wichita State duo of Torrie Browning and Olga Elkin to a tie break, but were defeated 9-7. It was the first loss this fall for the doubles pair of Yrureta and Huljev.
