Wildcats to Compete at ITA Central Regional

Senior Antea Huljev will maker her third career appearance in the ITA Central Regional this weekend.

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State women's tennis will conclude the fall portion of its schedule this weekend, as the Wildcats will send a delegation to the ITA Central Regional Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., beginning on Friday, Oct. 22. The remainder of K-State's roster will travel to the KU Invitational in Lawrence on Oct. 22-24.

K-State will take a group consisting of senior Antea Huljev, junior Petra Chuda, sophomore Karla Bonacic and freshman Petra Niedermayerova to the ITA Central Regional at the Billingsley Tennis Center at Arkansas.

Huljev, Bonacic and Niedermayerova will all compete in the main draw of singles beginning on Friday. Chuda will only compete in the main draw of doubles competition with Huljev. Bonacic and Niedermayerova will be paired together in the main draw of doubles.

Huljev will make her third career appearance at the ITA Central Regional, as she has tallied a 3-2 mark in her two previous appearances at the event. With four more singles' victories, Huljev will reach the 50-win plateau for her career (46-58).

The schedule for the weekend's main draw competitions for both singles and doubles play in Arkansas will be released following the completion of play-in matches on Thursday.

The Wildcats will take the rest of the roster to Lawrence for the KU Classic at the Jayhawk Tennis Facility. Participating schools include: Kansas, Colorado, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Iowa, Indiana, Wichita State and UMKC.

Junior Nina Sertic and sophomore Ana Gomez Aleman each own 3-3 records in singles competition after the first two events this fall. Sertic advanced to the finals of her draw at the Hoosier Classic in her previous outing, while Gomez Aleman appeared in the consolation finals of her draw at the same event.

Following this weekend's tournaments, K-State will begin making preparations for the spring season. The Wildcats will have a final tune-up for the spring slate on Jan. 14 at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga.
