Wildcats to Wrap Up Fall in Houston

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women’s tennis will conclude its first fall season under the direction of new head coach Danielle Steinberg this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to the Jason’s Deli Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Houston.

K-State enters the final fall event with a team singles record of 35-30, as the Wildcats tallied 15 wins at the Drake Jamboree. The Wildcats are led in singles play this season by sophomore Iva Bago. The product of Velika Gorica, Croatia, has carded a 7-2 record including a current five-match winning streak. The five-match win streak is the longest of Bago’s career and is the longest this season by a Wildcat.

Joining Bago with five or more singles wins this fall are sophomores Sara Castellano and Palma Juhasz. Castellano enters the weekend with a 6-3 record, including a semifinal appearance in the 2014 ITA Central Regional Championships two weeks ago.

Juhasz owns a 5-3 mark this fall in singles play. The native of Debrecen, Hungary, needs one win this weekend to tie her win total from her first fall (6-4).

In doubles action, K-State is led by sophomore Riley Nizzi and the tandem of Castellano and Juhasz. Nizzi tallied a perfect 4-0 doubles record last weekend at the Drake Jamboree and owns a 5-2 overall doubles record this fall.

The duo of Castellano and Juhasz are 4-1 together. Their last action came at the ITA Central Regional Championship, as they advanced to the round of 16 in the main draw of doubles.

Following this weekend’s action in Houston, K-State will begin preparing for its 2015 spring season opener against Northern Iowa, slated for January 17 at 10 a.m.
