MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women’s tennis head coach Steve Bietau announced on Monday the signing of Ivana Kubickova to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period from Nov. 9-17. Kubickova will join the program beginning in the fall of 2012.
“We are very excited to have Ivana's commitment to join our program next fall. Her athleticism, movement, and work ethic are all indicative of someone with a bright future in college tennis,” said Bietau about his newest signee. “She is a strong student who I expect will be successful both in the classroom and on the court. For our program to continue to improve, it's critical that we continue to attract student-athletes with high levels of talent, motivation, as well as a great work ethic. I think Ivana is a great fit for K-State and will help us to continue to elevate the competitive level of our team.”

Kubickova will join the Wildcats from Brno, Czech Republic, which is the hometown of current Wildcat assistant coach Olga Klimova and the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, sophomore Petra Niedermayerova. It is also the home country of current Wildcat freshman Marketa Trousilova.

Kubickova has pieced together a strong doubles junior record, capturing a pair of titles at the Southern Moravian Championships and the 2008 doubles title at the TE 16 Safina Cup. In the 2008 Safina Cup, Kubickova reached the semifinals in singles action.

Kansas State will resume workouts in early January in preparation for the 2012 spring season. K-State will open the 2012 spring schedule at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga., on Jan. 14-15. K-State will face Georgia on Jan. 14, followed by a match against Troy on Jan. 15.
