OMAHA, Neb. – After battling back and forth for the first two sets of the match against Creighton, K-State volleyball pounced on the Bluejays early in the third set with a 12-0 run to get the sweep on Saturday afternoon 25-22, 25-18, 25-21. A dominant performance from outside hitter Lilla Porubek helped guide K-State to the sweep as the Hungarian dominated the match with 16 kills.

Porubek pounded out a match-high 16 kills and was efficient with a .341 hitting percentage. Middle blocker Kaitlynn Pelger had another solid performance for the Wildcats with eight kills and three blocks. She also led the Wildcats with 14 digs. The senior co-captains each had strong showings as well with Kathleen Ludwig posting eight kills and seven digs. Alex Muff was a force at the net again with four block assists and two solo stops.

Creighton spread its offense around as five players had at least six kills apiece. Senior setter Megan Bober had a double-double for the Bluejays with 25 assists and 13 digs. Bober was one of the offensive stars with seven kills.

K-State (5-0) started the match off slowly against the Bluejays finding themselves down 1-3 early before the two teams began trading blows. Neither team could string together more than two points at a time. Creighton (4-1) would go on a 5-2 run to go ahead 18-15 and force a K-State timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Wildcats came out firing with their seniors. Setter Caitlyn Donahue scored on a dump to the front corner, and Ludwig fired two kills to the floor. Porubek responded with a kill to pull ahead 19-18 on a 4-0 run. After a kill from Creighton, another kill from Ludwig and an ace from Porubek would hold the momentum before K-State put the Bluejays away 25-22.

K-State again trailed early in the second set after a 5-1 run by the Bluejays. Creighton was up 10-6 before the Wildcats turned up the heat and reclaimed the lead. Back-to-back kills from Porubek set the tone, then a 5-0 run by K-State would give the Wildcats the lead 13-11 thanks to a strong serving run by Donahue to keep Creighton out of its offensive system. Another 3-0 run would put the Wildcats ahead 17-13 after an 11-3 run overall.

The third set was all Wildcats in the beginning. K-State fired off 12 straight points to take a 14-3 lead on the serving of Pelger and swing of Porubek. During the 12-0 run, Porubek tallied four kills and Pelger had three aces. Muff also contributed to the run with a solo block and assisted on two more.

That run gave K-State the cushion it needed to eventually put Creighton away building the lead to as much as 18-5. The Bluejays would battle back with a 5-0 run that would grow into a 12-2 run and pull within four points of K-State. A pair of errors by Creighton would put the Bluejays backs against the wall and Porubek would end the match with her 16th kill of the match.

K-State will finish its action at the Bluejay Invitational at 5:30 p.m. when the Wildcats take on the Syracuse Orange. Syracuse has lost its two previous matches of the tournament to host Creighton and Denver.
