Wildcats Try Out for National Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. Six Wildcats will attempt to see their dreams of representing the United States of America come true at next week’s open tryouts for USA Volleyball. U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Hugh McCutcheon has announced tryouts for the national teams will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., February 20-22.

Freshman Caitlyn Donahue and junior Lauren Mathewson will try out at the libero position while sophomore Sarah Allison and senior Kelsey Chipman will workout at middle blocker. Junior JuliAnne Chisholm will try out at outside hitter, and redshirt freshman Kathleen Ludwig will participate in the tryouts as an opposite.

The tryouts are for all teams associated with USA Volleyball. Players not selected for the National Team may be eligible for the U.S. Women’s National Junior Team and USA Women’s Senior A2 Team depending on the athlete’s age.

A total of 64 colleges are represented in the tryouts and a staff of 30 coaches will assist McCutcheon in evaluating the talent and selecting teams. Kansas State associate head coach Jeff Grove will be part of that coaching staff bringing K-State’s total of representatives at the tryouts to seven.

“We are excited to have K-State represented at the USA National Team open tryout,” said coach Suzie Fritz. “These players will be wonderful representatives of our university and it will be an excellent experience for them to participate with some of the best NCAA players throughout the country. Coach Grove will be an excellent addition to the USA tryout staff as well.”
