Manhattan High's Schroll Walks On at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - K-State volleyball head coach Suzie Fritz announced Manhattan High School product, Kelsey Schroll, has joined the program as a walk-on beginning this spring semester.

"We are excited about the addition of Kelsey to our roster for a number of reasons," said Fritz. "First, she has grown up a Wildcat and it's in her blood. Second, she is an excellent student and person, and finally, we like her athletic potential. We believe that she still has a lot of room to grow and improve, but we feel strongly that she has the right temperament to do so, and do so quickly, which will be key for her."

A three-year letterwinner at Manhattan, Schroll was a Class 6A all-state honorable mention and All-Centennial League First Team honoree as a senior after she led the Indians in blocks for the second-straight season. The 6-2 middle blocker also helped Manhattan capture a sub-state title as a junior in 2013, earning second-team all-league honors along the way.

In addition to volleyball, Schroll lettered in soccer, where she picked up second team all-league honors as a junior, and basketball.

Schroll has been working out with the Wildcats after she enrolled at Kansas State a semester ahead of her peers.

"She has done an excellent job in the first few weeks of embracing her opportunities, and I look forward to seeing what she can accomplish moving forward," added Fritz.

Schroll is one of three true freshmen slated to be on K-State's 2015 roster, joining fellow early-arrival Alyssa Schultejans (Silver Lake, Kan.) and signee Macy Flowers (Chanute, Kan.). Flowers is on track to enroll at K-State this summer after high school graduation. The trio will be among a roster that also includes 11 returning letterwinners from last season's 22-win team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Wildcats' spring schedule of scrimmages will be announced soon.
