Cats Announce 2015 Spring Schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Following a 22-win campaign and an NCAA Tournament appearance, the K-State volleyball team will build towards its 2015 regular season with a series of scrimmages this spring starting on Wednesday, April 1 and ending with a contest against Nebraska at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island, Nebraska on Saturday, April 25.

The Wildcats will play more than 10 full- and split-squad scrimmages over the course of 25 days, beginning with a two-match set on April 1 at UMKC from 4-8 p.m. K-State will take on the Kangaroos and Havoc, a semi-professional team that competed in the Premier Volleyball League over the last two years.

On Saturday, April 11, K-State will return to Kansas City and host its Spring Invitational at UMKC starting at 10 a.m. The Wildcats will be one of 10 different schools in the field of teams, which includes Arkansas, Creighton, Drake, Kansas, Missouri State, Omaha, Rockhurst, UMKC and Wichita State, while K-State and Wichita State will have a pair of split-squad groups competing. Admission to the tournament is free for all fans.

The following Saturday, the Wildcats will face the first of two Big Ten teams this spring when they take on Minnesota at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa at 9 a.m.

The spring is capped with matches in Nebraska on April 25. In the morning, the Wildcats will play at Nebraska-Kearney before heading 50 miles to the northeast to take on Nebraska in Grand Island at 6 p.m.

The Wildcats and Cornhuskers, former Big 12 rivals, have not met in a match since 2011 when K-State knocked off No. 3 Nebraska on its home court in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

K-State's spring roster currently boasts 11 returners from last fall, led by AVCA All-America Honorable Mentions and All-Big 12 selections Katie Brand and Kylee Zumach. In addition to four redshirts from 2014, the Wildcats also have two newcomers who joined the program a semester early this spring: high school All-American Alyssa Schultejans (Silver Lake, Kansas) and Kelsey Schroll (Manhattan, Kansas).
