MANHATTAN, Kan. - The K-State volleyball team started its spring slate of scrimmages with a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22) over Creighton on Saturday, March 29 at Ahearn Field House.

Sophomore middle blocker Katie Reininger, who redshirted in 2013, helped power the K-State attack with 11 kills on a .380 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Chelsea Keating also reached double digits in kills with a team-best 12 on a .230 hitting percentage.

"Overall it was a solid performance for the first competition of the spring," said K-State associate head coach Jeff Grove. "At times, we played very good volleyball, and now the challenge is to do that consistently."

The Wildcats bounced back from a narrow first set defeat, 25-22, before rattling off three straight set wins to claim the match. The third set required extra points before K-State claimed a 27-25 victory. Three of the four sets were decided by three points or less.

"Our focus for this scrimmage was our first swing attack rhythm and tempo, and it was nice to see some success," added Grove. "This was a great test against a talented Creighton team that showed us what areas we need to improve on as we continue to train over the next few weeks."

K-State will face the Heart of America Havoc Pro Team this Friday, April 4. The 6 pm match will be held at the Heart of America volleyball facility in Kansas City. Havoc, a professional team that competes in the Premier Volleyball League, features former Wildcat, Julianne Rathbun (formerly JuliAnne Chisholm).
