MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State volleyball team will again host a spring tournament at Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park this Saturday. Similar to last year's tournament hosted by K-State it will be held at setter Caitlyn Donahue's alma mater, and this year's tournament is even bigger with action on three courts throughout the day starting at 9:30 a.m.

A total of eight universities are set to compete at this year's tournament with the Wildcats splitting into two squads to fill the field of nine teams. K-State White will open the tournament playing in-state rival Kansas in the opening match on Court 2. K-State Purple's first match will be at 10:30 a.m. on Court 1 against Arkansas State. The Wildcats will see a familiar face from Arkansas State in head coach Justin Ingram. Ingram served as an assistant coach for K-State from 2001-08. He is in his third year leading the Red Wolves.

Other schools competing this year are Arkansas, Arkansas State, Kansas, Missouri State, Saint Louis, UMKC and Wichita State. Fans can attend the matches for free to watch the action in all three pools with a morning and afternoon session. The afternoon session begins at 1 p.m. after a short lunch break for the teams. The teams in the pools will change following the break allowing the teams to play more opponents during the tournament.

The Wildcats are coming off their best performance of the spring last weekend after winning all three of their matches in a tournament hosted by Nebraska-Kearney. K-State defeated Colorado State, UN-Kearney and Big 12 Conference rival Iowa State 2-1 in all three matches.

K-State will close its spring schedule next week when the Wildcats play host to the top professional club team from China on Thursday. K-State will take on Bridgestone Tianjin at 5 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum just prior to the Wildcat baseball team taking on Texas Tech at 6:30.

Bridgestone Tianjin is playing a number of university teams while on an American tour similar to the European tour the Wildcats went on last summer. There will be a meet and greet for fans interested in meeting both teams at the International Student Center from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The first 50 fans at the game will receive free T-shirts, and members of the Bat Cats club will receive an extra punch on their card for attending the volleyball match as well. More details on the events surrounding the match against Bridgestone Tianjin will be released next week.
