Volleyball Announces 2014 Nonconference Schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan. The K-State volleyball team has announced the nonconference portion of its 2014 schedule, which features the K-State Invitational held in Bramlage Coliseum in early September. The season starts on August 29.

The Wildcats, coming off their third straight winning season, will open up 2014 with a tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay from August 29-30. Three of the four teams in the tournament have been announced, which include South Dakota and Green Bay in addition to K-State.

K-State’s home schedule starts on September 4 with the K-State Invitational. The three-day tournament will be held in Bramlage Coliseum, home of K-State men’s and women’s basketball, and feature Arkansas, Central Florida, and Middle Tennessee State. The Wildcats will open the tournament with a 7 pm match against Arkansas on Thursday, September 4. K-State goes on to face Middle Tennessee State on Friday, September 5 at 7 pm and closes the weekend out with a 7 pm match against UCF on Saturday, September 6.

K-State will play two weekday nonconference home matches, with the first being held on Monday, September 8 against Missouri State. On Tuesday, September 16, South Dakota State arrives in Manhattan to take on the Wildcats in a 6 pm match.

After the contest against Missouri State, K-State heads to Carbondale, Illinois for a tournament hosted by Southern Illinois. The two-day event held from September 12-13 will have four teams competing, including K-State, IPFW, Marshall, and host Southern Illinois.

The Wildcats end the nonconference portion of their regular season schedule with a tournament hosted by Michigan in Ann Arbor from September 19-20. K-State will play two matches on Friday, September 19, first against Eastern Michigan at 1 pm and then against Michigan at 7 pm. The Wildcats end the tournament on Saturday, September 20 with a 1 pm tilt versus Youngstown State.

Four of K-State’s nonconference opponents were in the final NCAA RPI top 100 rankings in 2013, including Michigan (No. 33), Arkansas (No. 44), Missouri State (No. 70), and Middle Tennessee State (No. 87). The Wildcats finished 2013 ranked No. 58 in RPI. Both Michigan and Arkansas reached the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Big 12 portion of K-State’s 2014 schedule will be released on Tuesday, April 15.
