MANHATTAN, Kan. – Some K-State volleyball fans got a pleasant surprise on Tuesday evening when their 2012 season tickets were hand delivered by the Wildcats themselves. Two groups from the volleyball team made visits in Manhattan to say thank you to a few of the program’s supporters and share their excitement for the upcoming season.

“It was really fun. It was a really good opportunity for us to get out into the Manhattan community and all of the season ticket holders were extremely welcoming and felt appreciative of the time we took to deliver their tickets,” said senior Kathleen Ludwig.

The season is just six weeks away and the Wildcats are looking for another great year after reaching the Sweet 16 last year. K-State returns all its starters from last year’s squad and a large amount of excitement is building within the program and the fans for 2012 to get underway.

Fellow senior Alex Muff agreed with Ludwig that it was a great way to connect with the fans and an even better way to say thank you for being Wildcat fans.

“Getting out there meeting people helps them get to know us,” Muff said. “It also gets them to tell their friends to get even more support for us. I think it’s important for us as a team to recognize that we are getting continued support from tons of people throughout the Manhattan community.”

The personal touch did not go unnoticed by the fans who received their tickets on their front door step Tuesday. The Wildcats posed for pictures with the fans and one, Joan Thomson, invited the team inside for a moment just to sit down and talk about volleyball with her and her husband Don. She even contacted K-State Head Coach Suzie Fritz to thank the team for delivering her tickets.

“Just a note to tell you how very pleased Don and I were to receive a wonderful surprise visit from Alex, Caitlyn and Kathleen,” the email read. “We are so pleased they took a few moments to sit and visit with us! Good luck this season.”

K-State opens its 2012 season at home on August 24 against UC Irvine as part of a two-day home tournament at Ahearn Field House. The home schedule includes 15 matches, with five against NCAA Tournament teams from last season in the recently renovated venue.

This is the second year the Wildcats have hand delivered some of the season tickets, and it is something the players would like to see continue as the fans play a big role for the Wildcats.

“We had one couple we went to and they’re at a barbeque we have every year. They’re always there and they were super appreciative,” Muff said. “I definitely think this is something as a team we should continue to do in the future and let the community know how much we appreciate their support.”
