AVCA Showcase to be Nationally Televised

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced an agreement Wednesday with CBS College Sports Network to air this year’s Runza/AVCA Showcase on August 28-29. This year’s Showcase will be played at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb., featuring two teams from the Big 12 Conference and Big Ten Conference.

Kansas State and Nebraska will represent the Big 12 with Michigan and Minnesota representing the Big Ten in the conference challenge format. K-State will open the event against Minnesota at 6 p.m. August 28 with Nebraska and Michigan following at 8:30 p.m. The Wildcats will again play the first match on day two of action taking on the Wolverines as the Cornhuskers and Golden Gophers play at 8:30 p.m.

The match will also be available on NET, Nebraska’s PBS station producing the event, for fans in the area without CBS College Sports Network.

The AVCA also announced a series of changes to the event to make the matches more television-friendly. Two media timeouts will be taken during each set, versus the typical one. The first media timeout will be taken when the first team reaches eight points and again at 16 points. Each team will be allotted one additional timeout per set.

In addition to the media timeouts, the Runza/AVCA Showcase will feature a three-color court, instead of the customary two colors. The third color will be used between the three-meter lines. The third change to the Showcase to make the event TV friendly is holding the start of play during replays.

Tickets are still available to the 2009 Runza/AVCA Showcase. Single-session tickets are $22 for lower bowl reserved seats and $18 for upper bowl reserved seats. All-session passes also are available for $39 in the lower bowl reserved area and $32 for upper bowl reserved seats.

K-State has an allotment of tickets for sale in the Ticket Office. For more information on purchasing tickets call the K-State Ticket Office at 785-532-7606. Tickets are also available through ticketmaster.com or at the Qwest Center box office.
