K-State Receiving Votes in Preseason Poll

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The first volleyball preseason poll of the year has been released, and Kansas State is receiving votes. Volleyball Magazine revealed its preseason Top 20 poll this week with the Wildcats coming in as the fourth leading vote getter to not make the list.

K-State trails Purdue, Pepperdine and Cal Poly on the receiving votes list. Purdue and Cal Poly are both on the Wildcats’ schedule this season as well. Three Big 12 Conference schools made the Top 20 list with Texas coming in at No. 2 and Nebraska right behind at No. 3 after each team lost in the NCAA Semifinals last season. Iowa State made the list at No. 11 after making a run deep into the tournament.

Proof of K-State’s strong schedule is further evidenced in Volleyball Magazine’s poll with No. 8 Minnesota and No. 15 Michigan playing the Wildcats opening weekend. Two more of K-State’s 2009 opponents are receiving votes with Kentucky directly behind K-State on the list and Big 12 foe Texas A&M also received votes.

K-State starts the 2009 campaign at the Runza/AVCA Showcase August 28-29 in Omaha, Neb., at the Qwest Center. K-State will play Minnesota on the first day of action and take on Michigan on day two with both matches set for 6 p.m. Nebraska will also play at the annual event playing each day at 8:30 against Michigan and Minnesota.
