Volleyball Media Day, Scrimmage on Saturday

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State volleyball team will conclude training camp for the 2009 season this weekend with the annual Purple/White Match and Media Day on Saturday. Fans can catch the Wildcats in action at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ahearn Field House as the team prepares for another campaign in the Big 12 Conference.

Media Day is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. on the court with members of the media able to conduct interviews for 45 minutes prior to the Purple/White Match.

The Wildcats completed their first week of training camp with head coach Suzie Fritz saying the team has come a long way and compares well to her previous teams.

"We've made as much progress in one week as any team we've had," Fritz said. "They're working exceptionally hard."

K-State has eight newcomers to this year's squad and Fritz added the team is having to mature quickly to be ready for the Big 12 and a nonconference schedule that boasts four ranked teams from 2008.

"We're in the process of trying to grow up as fast as we can because our schedule won't cut us any slack," Fritz said. "We have to be prepared, and we keep making progress and getting better every day."

Fritz and her Wildcats begin the season at the Runza/AVCA Showcase in Omaha, Neb., on August 28-29 at the Qwest Center. K-State and Nebraska will each take on Big Ten Conference powers Michigan and Minnesota.

Tickets are still available to the Showcase through the K-State Ticket Office. For ticket information or to purchase tickets in K-State's allotment call 1-800-221-CATS.
