MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State volleyball held its annual Purple/White Scrimmage on Saturday evening in conjunction with Media Day, and head coach Suzie Fritz was happy with what she saw on the floor.

“We spent this week working on our first swing offense, and I think we did a good job of improving that,” Fritz said. “We need to get our hitters in the mindset of getting sideouts, and that’s what focusing on and improving our first swing efficiency will do.”

The Wildcats have been in training camp for less than two weeks, and Fritz said the improvement her team has made from the first day of workouts to now is a promising sign.

“I think that’s a testament to our leadership from JuliAnne Chisholm and Lauren Mathewson,” Fritz said. “They have done a great job as seniors to lead this team to get better. Also, all the freshmen came into training camp motivated and ready to play by being in good shape. We’ve been at it for less than two weeks and we’re getting better every day and are farther along at this point than we were a year ago.”

The Wildcats begin their 2010 season Friday when they head to the Honolulu to take on Hawaii, UCLA and San Diego in the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational. K-State will play its first home game on September 1 when the Wildcats take on South Dakota.
