Ahearn Field House is loud. It seats 5,000 for K-State volleyball matches, but with a raucous student section - called the "Purple Pit" - filling the seats alongside other Wildcats supporters, Ahearn's decibel level can easily mimic one of a nearby train rattling constantly going by.

Fans are not encouraged to bring earplugs since they will probably be a part of the action and contributing to the noise levels. This is why the Wildcats enjoy their home court advantage.

Since head coach Suzie Fritz took over in 2001, the Wildcats are 126-47 (.728) at home, improving the program's all-time record at Ahearn Field House to 290-145-5 (.646) over the last 39 years. K-State is 22-6 (.786) at Ahearn in the last two years.

Coming off a 3-0 record at the UNLV Invitational last weekend, the Wildcats will be looking forward to having their own fans cheer them on, something they have not experienced since November 24, 2012.

K-State fans will get their first chance to see the undefeated Wildcats this season on Friday at noon against Southeast Missouri State. Faculty and staff can redeem a free ticket to the home opener by showing their valid ID at the box office. Later that night, at 7:30 pm, K-State will take on Southern Illinois for what will surely be a lively crowd (the first 400 students get free pizza).

The K-State Invitational wraps up Saturday when the Wildcats face Siena at 1 pm. For fans attending the football game against Louisiana, a $3 ticket is available to the September 7 volleyball match. All they have to do is show their football ticket at the box office.

Notes: Senior middle blocker Kaitlynn Pelger earned her sixth career tournament MVP award at the UNLV Invitational ... Junior middle blocker Taylor Johnson delivered the best game of her career in the season opener against Portland when she tallied a career-high 13 kills on a .600 hitting percentage. The .600 hitting percentage against Portland is the fourth-highest in program history for a five-set match (highest: .706, Renee Whitney vs. North Texas on Sept. 29, 1984) ... K-State turned in 18.0 team blocks against Cal State Fullerton and 17.0 team blocks against UNLV. The 18.0 team blocks on August 31 were the most by K-State in a match since September 8, 2011 when the Wildcats had 22.0 team blocks at Missouri State. It is also the first time the Wildcats have recorded 17.0 or more team blocks in two matches in a single season since 2007. K-State had five matches during the 2007 season in which they recorded 17.0+ team blocks.
