Zumach is Top Big 12 Rookie Third Straight Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. - For the third week in a row, freshman Kylee Zumach was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week for the period ending September 21, the conference office announced. Zumach shared this week's award with Lauren Douglass of Texas Tech.

Zumach, the first Wildcat ever to win a Big 12 weekly award in three straight weeks, had double-digit kills in each of the four matches last week, totaling 61 over 16 sets (3.81/set). The outside hitter had a pair of standout performances at the Michigan Invitational, where she was named the tournament MVP, starting with a 25-kill effort on a .356 hitting percentage against Eastern Michigan. The 25 kills are the most by any Big 12 player this season and the most by a Wildcat since 2011 (Lilla Porubek, 26, vs. Kansas on Nov. 23).

Following up her 25 kills in the first match on September 19, Zumach helped lead K-State past Michigan in four sets later that evening by recording 14 kills with a .406 hitting percentage. She also had four blocks against the Wolverines, helping her record eight blocks over the course of the tournament and nine for the week.

Zumach's 3.81 kills per set last week were the sixth-most among all Big 12 players while her 4.09 points per set were the eighth-most. For the entire season, the Buffalo, Minnesota native is third in the conference in kills (3.60/set) and points (3.98/set).

This week's award also marks the first time K-State has garnered a weekly honor from the Big 12 in three straight weeks since 2001 when Cari Jensen, Lisa Mimick and Gabby Guerre did so from November 2-19.

Zumach's honor is the 35th time a Wildcat has been recognized by the Big 12 under head coach Suzie Fritz and 44th time overall in program history.

Zumach and the Wildcats will open the Big 12 portion of their schedule on Saturday, September 27 against Baylor in Ahearn Field House. Fans can purchase $3 tickets to the 7 p.m. match by showing their K-State vs. UTEP football ticket at the ticket window.
