Mathewson Earns Big 12 Player of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State libero Lauren Mathewson received her first Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday following her record performance against No. 23 Texas A&M. Mathewson set a school record for digs in a match with 41 in the upset victory over the Aggies on Wednesday. She followed that performance with 19 digs and three aces in a win over Texas Tech.

Mathewson led the Big 12 in digs for the week averaging 6.67 digs per set over the two matches and propelled herself into second place on the leader board in the conference for the season now averaging 4.97 per set on the year. This is Mathewson's first Player of the Week honor this season and second overall receiving the award once last season.

Other Big 12 Players of the Week this week were Nebraska setter Sydney Anderson for Offensive Player of the Week, and this week's Rookie of the Week was Nebraska's Hannah Werth.

Mathewson and the Wildcats travel to take on in-state rival Kansas on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Lawrence.
