MANHATTAN, Kan. - K-State volleyball's Taylor Johnson was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending November 10, the conference announced.

The junior middle blocker led the Big 12 with 18 blocks last week, including a career-high 10 at Texas Tech on November 6. Johnson added eight blocks on November 9 against West Virginia, helping the Wildcats tally 13.5 team blocks - the most in a Big 12 three-set match this season.

Johnson leads the Big 12 with 1.36 blocks per set in conference-only matches.

The Defensive Player of the Week award is the first for Johnson in her career, and it is the second time a Wildcat has garnered a Defensive Player of the Week award this season. Senior Kaitlynn Pelger was named the Big 12's top defensive player for the week of September 16. The Wildcats are tops in the Big 12 with 252 blocks, including 102 by Johnson.

K-State has earned five Big 12 player of the week awards this season, tying the school-record for most in a single season. Pelger, who was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week last week, has earned two Offensive Player of the Week awards in addition to her Defensive Player of the Week distinction. Redshirt freshman Katie Brand was named Rookie of the Week on September 16.

Since 2001, the Wildcats have been recognized 32 times for the Big 12's Player of the Week awards.

On tap for Johnson and K-State is this season's second edition of the Sunflower Showdown when the Wildcats take on rival Kansas in Lawrence on Saturday, November 16. The match at Horejsi Family Athletics Center starts at 6:30 pm.
