Cats Sweep Colorado 3-0 in Senior Farewell

MANHATTAN, Kan. In true Senior Night fashion, No. 12 Kansas State raced to a quick victory over the Colorado Buffaloes, winning 3-0 on Saturday night. The Wildcats, who honored seniors Angie Lastra, Lauren Rosenthal and Stacey Spiegelberg postgame, improve to 22-7 overall and 14-5 in the Big 12 Conference after defeating the Buffs 30-17, 30-26, 30-16. K-State handed Colorado its 20th loss of the season as the Buffaloes fall to 6-20 overall, 1-17 Big 12.


Spiegelberg notched a match-high 43 assists while adding five kills on .455 hitting and put back six blocks. Lastra, K-State’s all-time digs leader, put together a 10-dig performance to finish with a match high in the category. Rosenthal added eight of K-State’s 40 team digs.


“It was an emotional night,” Lastra said. “It was great to have all of the fans there for support. I am lucky to have had this opportunity; I have enjoyed it. I am so glad that I made the decision (to come to Kansas State).”


The three seniors fed the K-State attack that finished with 53 kills on 112 attempts while only committing nine errors to hit at .393 percent. Juniors Rita Liliom and Nataly Korobkova each finished with double figures in kills. Liliom had a match-high 17 on a .438 hitting clip, while Korobkova converted for 10 kills on .240 hitting. Junior Kelsey Chipman added nine kills on .750 hitting and also had a match-high eight blocks.


The Wildcats held the Buffaloes to a hitting clip of .168 with only 37 kills on 101 attempts and pressured Colorado into 20 attack errors. K-State had perfect reception by holding the Buffs without a single service ace, as CU committed 10 service errors. Schylur Edelman finished with 12 kills and Callie Webster led the defense with nine digs.


K-State will have a bye on Wednesday, but will return to the court for its final regular season match on Saturday as the Wildcats travel to Austin, Texas, to take on No. 3 Texas. For complete coverage of Kansas State volleyball, please visit
