Four Wildcats Named Academic All-Big 12

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Big 12 Conference announced the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Team on Tuesday and four Kansas State Wildcats made the grade. Kelsey Chipman, JuliAnne Chisholm, Abby Fay and Lauren Mathewson all were named to the first team and join a total of 52 student-athletes on the list.

Chisholm was one of only two student-athletes honored with a perfect 4.0 GPA with Katie Martincich from Kansas being the other. Chisholm is a junior outside hitter for the Wildcats and an athletic training and pre-med major. This is Chisholm's first Academic All-Big 12 honor.

Chipman, a senior middle blocker, receives her third first team award having earned it all three years she has been eligible. She is a life sciences and pre-med major with a 3.79 GPA. Mathewson, junior libero, currently holds a 3.81 in business administration and Fay, a sophomore defensive specialist, is majoring in marketing with a 3.82 GPA. Both Fay and Mathewson receive their second first team award also receiving it both years they have been eligible.

To receive Academic All-Big 12 recognition a student-athlete must maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA or over the two previous semesters and participate in 60 percent of her team's contests. First team members hold at least a 3.20 GPA. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria except percent of participation also are eligible.
