MANHATTAN, Kan. - Freshman middle blocker Kaitlynn Pelger ended her debut season with back-to-back matches leading the Wildcats to wins and her first player of the week award being named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Monday.

The Olathe South product pounded out a career-high 20 kills in a win at Kansas on Wednesday. Her performance against the Jayhawks was a complete effort as she added six digs and three block assists to go along with her .326 hitting percentage and pair of aces at the service line. She opened the fifth set of the win over KU by tallying three kills, two blocks and an ace to take the early 7-2 lead in the fifth.

Pelger followed that showing with another complete match with 18 kills in a five-set win over Colorado on Saturday with an even better .469 hitting percentage. Pelger posted a rare double-double for a middle blocker with 11 digs on the night and also had five blocks, four assists and another pair of aces in the win. She closed the week with 3.80 kills a set on a .387 hitting percentage. Her four aces gave her an average of 0.40 for the week. She also averaged 1.70 digs and 0.80 blocks per set for the week.

This is the third player of the week honor for K-State this season with Alex Muff earning Defensive Player of the Week and JuliAnne Chisholm receiving Offensive Player of the Week following the first week of Big 12 action.
