MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kylee Zumach became the first player in K-State volleyball history to be named Big 12 Freshman of the Year as the outside hitter was also among three Wildcats selected to the All-Big 12 team, the conference office announced. Zumach and redshirt sophomore Katie Brand were named to the All-Big 12 First Team while redshirt senior Natali Jones was awarded All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.

Zumach, a unanimous selection for Big 12 Freshman of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team and All-Big 12 Freshman Team, has rewritten the K-State record books in her first year on campus. The Buffalo, Minnesota native established a new Wildcat freshman record for most kills in a season (406), a total that includes the most kills by any Big 12 freshman in conference-only matches (226) since 2009. For Big 12-only contests, Zumach finished fifth in kills per set (3.59) and points per set (3.87) amongst all players.

Zumach was also named Big 12 Rookie of the Week five times this year, the most player of the week selections by a Wildcat in a season. She was named the conference's top rookie for three weeks in a row from September 8-22, which are the most consecutive honors in K-State history as well.

Zumach was one of six unanimous selections to the All-Big 12 First Team and first unanimous winner of the Big 12 Freshman of the Year since 2011 (Haley Eckerman, Texas).

Brand, an All-Big 12 Freshman Team member a year ago and All-Big 12 Preseason Team selection this year, earned her first career All-Big 12 First Team honor after finishing third in the conference in assists per set for Big 12-only matches and leading all Big 12 setters in kills, digs, blocks and points for the entire campaign. She also became just the fourth Wildcat in school history, and first since 2006, to join the Quadruple-Triple Club (100 kills, assists, digs and blocks). Brand finished the regular season with 1,249 assists, 308 digs, 109 kills and 101 blocks.

A native of Grand Island, Nebraska, Brand is the fourth K-State setter ever to earn Big 12 First Team honors, joining Caitlyn Donahue (2012), Gabby Guerre (2002-04) and Disney Bronnenberg (1999).

Jones broke out in her final year at K-State, registering the most blocks (144) by a Wildcat in a regular season since 2010 (Alex Muff, 145). The Pratt Community College product finished the Big 12 season third in the conference in blocks per set (1.48) while she also finished with 102 kills, 41 digs and 11 aces in 61 sets. In late October, Jones was named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week and became the fourth Wildcat in program history to garner national player of the week honors by the AVCA.

It marks the second time in the last three years that three Wildcats were named All-Big 12 as Donahue, Kaitlynn Pelger (First Team) and Muff (Honorable Mention) were selected in 2012. This year's pair of first team nods marks the eighth time in program history at least two Wildcats picked up first team honors in the same season.

Voting for the awards was among Big 12 coaches, and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

K-State continues its 2014 season with the First Round of the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship on Friday, December 5 vs. Utah in Lincoln, Nebraska. It is the Wildcats' third trip to Lincoln for the NCAA Tournament over the last four years while it is their 15th trip ever to the NCAA Tournament.
