Talley Finishes Fourth at Big 12 Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Kansas State junior women's golfer Madison Talley fired her second under-par round of the 2016 Big 12 Championship on Sunday as she finished in fourth place with a 54-hole score of 2-under par 214 at Dominion Country Club. Talley’s performance marked the first time a Wildcat has finished in the top 10 at the Big 12 Championship and subsequently earn a spot on the all-tournament team since Christine Boucher tied for seventh in 2004.
Talley, who carded a 1-under par 71 on Sunday, also earned the best finish by a K-State golfer in the Big 12 Championship since Boucher finished second in 2002, while it marked her fourth top-five finish this season. Additionally, her 54-hole score of 214 was the best ever by a Wildcat at the Big 12 Championship by 10 strokes and tied for eighth in K-State history overall.
As a team, K-State recorded a three-round score of 24-over par 888 to finish in eighth place. K-State concluded play one stroke ahead of No. 25 Texas Tech and just one shot behind seventh-place Kansas.
"I am very proud of Madison,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “She had a great Big 12 Championship and season overall. But as a team, that was not the way we wanted to finish today. We did not take advantage of the opportunity.”
Juniors Katherine Gravel-Coursol and Paige Nelson finished the event in a tie for 35th place at 11-over par 227. Sophomore Connie Jaffrey and freshman Chloe Weir both finished the event in a tie for 40th at 11-over par 227. Weir recorded her best round of the event on Sunday with a 3-over par 74 on Sunday.
Shooting 6-under par in the final round, No. 9 Oklahoma State held on to the top team spot to capture the 2016 Big 12 Championship with a winning score of 8-under par 856. The Cowgirls finished 11 shots better than No. 31 Texas, which jumped into second place on the final day.
