Talley in Contention for Top-10 Finish

TALLAHASSEE Fla. – Kansas State junior women’s golfer Madison Talley remained in the top 10 following the second round of play of the Florida State Match-Up at the par-72, 6,265-yard Don Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club on Saturday. As a team, the Wildcats improved four shots from round one with a 17-over par 305 and enter final-round play in 10th place at 38-over par 614.

Talley, who carded a 1-under par 71 in round one, shot a 4-over par 75 in the second round and enters Sunday’s final round in a tie for ninth place at 2-over par 146. Talley is in search of her third top-10 finish of the year.

The Wildcats were led on Saturday by freshman Chole Weir, who climbed 21 spots on the leaderboard thanks to an even-par 72 on Saturday. She enters final-round play in a tie for 23rd at 6-over par 150, looking to record her first career top-20 finish.

“Today was disappointing overall,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “We got off to a good start and were not able to keep that mindset for the entire round. Chloe had a good round, as well as Madison, but we will need to be better tomorrow as a team.”

Junior Katherine Gravel-Coursol sits in a tie for 52nd with a 15-over par 159. Junior Paige Nelson improved five strokes from her round-one score and ended the day in a tie for 58th at 17-over par 161. Senior Scotland Preston completed play on Saturday in 66th at 19-over par 163.

South Carolina took the team lead in day two after carding a 3-under par 285 on Saturday. The Gamecocks enter Sunday’s final round at 6-over par 582, four shots ahead of second-place Florida State. Texas A&M’s Maddie Szeryk kept her place at the top of the individual leaderboard after shooting 3-under par 141 through the first two rounds. Leading the Match-Up competition through round two is the pairing of Florida State and Texas A&M.

The final round of the Florida State Match-Up will start at 7 a.m. (CT) on Sunday. Live stats can be followed on www.golfstat.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of play.
