Talley in First at Big 12 Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Sitting atop the individual leaderboard, Kansas State junior women’s golfer Madison Talley led the Wildcats with a 3-under par 69 performance in the first round at the 2016 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship at Dominion Country Club on Friday. Tally registered four birdies on the day to card her 12th under-par round this season.

As a team, the Wildcats recorded a 7-over par 295 and enter Saturday’s second round in fifth place. K-State is one shot behind No. 27 TCU and one shot ahead of No. 25 Texas Tech.

“I am proud of the team today,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “Madison played a very good round. It was a solid first round, they all stayed in the moment and stuck with their process.”

Sophomore Connie Jaffrey carded a 2-over par 74 and enters the second round in a tie for 19th. Freshman Chloe Weir, who is just one shot away from the top-20, is tied for 27th after carding a 3-over par 75. Juniors Katherine Gravel-Coursol and Paige Nelson finished play on Friday at 5-over par 77 and in a tie for 37th.

No. 17 Iowa State leads the team competition at 1-under par 287, one shot ahead of a two-way tie for second place between No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 31 Texas. Talley leads the individual competition by one stroke over Texas’ Sophia Schubert.

K-State will tee off the second round of 2016 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship at 9 a.m., on Saturday and will be paired with TCU and Texas Tech. Live stats can be followed on www.golfstat.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of play.
